Swede Almgren improves European record over 10km in Valencia

January 12, 2025 - A memorable beginning to the new year in Valencia. The 10K Valencia Ibercaja by Kiprun delivered on its promise and made athletics history on the second Sunday of the year. On the occasion of its 17th edition, which took place in pleasant sunshine and refreshing winds, a new European record was established for the men.

The champion of the race, Swedish athlete Andreas Almgren, emerged as the winner, setting a new European 10K record with a time of 26:53. His outstanding performance surpassed the previous record held by Frenchman Etienne Daguinos, who had achieved 27:04 in Lille 2024.

Hellen Ekalale from Kenya (at 29 minutes and 30 seconds), then Girmawit Gebru from Ethiopia (at 29 minutes and 34 seconds) and Foyten Tesfay (at 29 minutes and 42 seconds).

A total of 13,046 participants crossed the starting line at this racing event, which is considered the world's speediest 10km race.
