Vicar of Dibley stamps launched by Royal Mail

Royal Mail has launched a commemorative stamp collection to honor the acclaimed television series The Vicar of Dibley.

The primary set of eight stamps features pictures of renowned scenes from the series.

The popular sitcom, which ran for three seasons on the Weden Newsfrom November 1994 to January 2007, received numerous awards.

Paul Mayhew-Archer, one who co-wrote the program alongside Richard Curtis, described this as "very exciting news and an amazing honour".

The series was set in the fictional village of Dibley in Oxfordshire, where a female vicar, played by Dawn French, was assigned to the post.

The six-part series premiered eight months following the ordination of the first 32 British women as vicars in the Church of England, and was created and co-written by Richard Curtis, along with Mr. Mayhew-Archer.

The series is one of the most successful British television programmes, having received numerous British Comedy Awards, an International Emmy Award, and was a multiple nominee for the British Academy Television Awards.

Mr. Mayhew-Archer said, "It is a truly amazing honor and it is a pity that so few members of the cast remain to enjoy it."

Gazing at the lovely stamps, I was instantly transported back to a joyful period of my past.

They are special stamps in commemoration of individuals with extraordinary medical requirements.

For more than 50 years, the Royal Mail has stated that its Special Stamp programme has commemorated anniversaries and celebrated events significant to UK heritage and daily life.

David Gold, director of external affairs and policy, stated: "The extraordinary writing and the warmth and individuality of its characters turned The Vicar of Dibley into one of the most beloved television comedies of all time.

To commemorate the series, new stamps are being released, highlighting some of the show's iconic scenes.

The stamps are now available for advance ordering.
